Explore The Snakes and Ladders Campaign
Earlier this summer, I had the immense honour of showcasing my Snakes and Ladders series in collaboration with Mind Hong Kong, and their anti-stigma division More Than a Label. This project, inspired by my son’s endless drawings of his own Snakes and Ladders games, became a powerful metaphor for the unpredictable ups and downs we experience in our mental health journeys.
Mental health struggles are often more than just a shift in mindset; sometimes, it’s the roll of the dice. We don’t choose the challenges we face—whether they come from generational inheritance or circumstantial trauma—but we can choose how we respond to ourselves and others. In these moments, it’s essential to practise self-compassion, empathy, and the understanding that healing isn’t linear.
Each piece in this series tells a story, reflecting the ambassadors’ powerful experiences. They depict moments of pain, but also hope, joy, and the strength found in community. As viewers, I invite you to step into these vignettes, narrate your own story, and discover how much we all have in common. It’s not the answers we give, but the solidarity we offer that heals.
As October marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month in Hong Kong, it’s a critical time to continue these conversations, spread awareness, and break the stigma surrounding mental health. Let’s remind ourselves to check in with one another, support our communities, and create spaces where it’s okay to not be okay.
A heartfelt thank you to Mind Hong Kong, and their ambassadors who shared their stories so courageously, and everyone who has supported me in my journey. Your presence has meant the world, and this artwork would not exist without you.
